Recap and Final Thoughts

Weekly Objective:
In Week Six, we will work on finalizing our websites. Additionally, we will review some of concepts discussed in Week Five such as connecting the domain from popular providers such as GoDaddy or Namecheap. Furthermore, we will also showcase some of the cohort’s websites and answer any outstanding questions about WordPress. Moreover, we will also explore different hosting options, learn how to back up our WordPress websites and redeploy them in a separate hosting.

Week 6 Recording

Requirements:
  • WordPress website (either from Week 1 or an equivalent installation of WordPress)
  • Laptop (or iPad with keyboard)
  • A stable internet connection to be able to watch the stream, interact on X spaces, and access online tools
  • A few pages already created during previous weeks
  • Domain from any of the domain sellers such as Namecheap or GoDaddy

Resources:
  • DigitalOcean x TSI Hosting - Everyone who attended Week One was able to sign up and claim their free cPanel. This platform has your log in information. Everyone who attended Week One has been verified and approved for a free cPanel.
  • Digital Ocean - A hosting provider that has a lot of flexibility and affordable hosting that scales as you grow. They have an initial offer of $100 in credit for 60 days to get you started with their hosting services.
  • GoDaddy - Domain registrar and hosting service provider. Has millions of domains with a wide range of TLDRs. Alternatives are also Namecheap and Google Domains.
  • Google Cloud Platform - Another cloud hosting provider. Google Cloud Platform is not as beginner friendly as Godaddy or DigitalOcean. They do offer one click installation for WordPress and provide $300 in free credit for 90 days.
  • All in One Migrations - WordPress plugin that allows us to create backups of our website, seamlessly restore backups, and migrate our WordPress websites with ease. This plugin creates an identical copy of your website. We will use this to backup and migrate our sites at the end of the program.
  • cPanel Access - This is a direct link to the cPanel login screen. You can also go to yourdomain/cpanel to access it.
  • AI Tutor - Since WordPress and Divi are quite popular frameworks, you can use AI Tutor Plus to help you with creating and editing your website.
  • Pixio - Eventually, you will need images for your website. In Pixio you can generate images, remove backgrounds, and create graphics. Additionally, you retain full ownership of all the images created in Pixio.
